 Roles and Responsibilities of the CUC Board

The Chasefu University College (CUC) Board serves as the principal governing authority of the institution, entrusted with oversight, strategic direction, and compliance with the provisions of the Higher Education Act. Its core responsibilities encompass the following:

  1. Governance and Administration

The Board provides overall governance, control, and administrative leadership for Chasefu University College. It ensures that institutional policies, practices, and operations align with statutory requirements and uphold the mission and vision of the college.

  1. Curriculum Approval

The Board exercises authority over the approval of teaching materials and academic curricula within the School of Theology. The approved areas of study include, but are not limited to, bibliology, ecclesiology, dogmatology, diaconology, and missiology, as well as humanities and technical skills. This role ensures that academic programs remain contextually relevant, theologically sound, and pedagogically rigorous.

  1. Quality Assurance

The Board safeguards academic quality and standards of training across the University College. Its responsibilities include determining appropriate staffing levels for effective teaching, endorsing curricula, and appointing external examiners where necessary. Through these measures, the Board guarantees adherence to nationally recognized benchmarks of excellence.

  1. Staff Selection and Advisory Functions

The Board oversees the recruitment and selection of academic staff. In addition, it provides advisory support to affiliated churches on matters concerning staff induction, professional development, and, where applicable, disjunction. This ensures that personnel decisions are both institutionally sound and ecclesiastically informed.

  1. Discipline

The Board maintains oversight of disciplinary matters affecting both academic staff and students. It ensures that codes of conduct are upheld and that disciplinary procedures are administered fairly, consistently, and in accordance with institutional regulations.

  1. Financial Management

The Board is responsible for the stewardship of the University College’s financial resources. This includes fundraising initiatives, financial planning, budgetary supervision, and the strategic development of institutional infrastructure. Sound financial governance ensures sustainability and supports the long-term growth of the college.

  1. Reporting and Accountability

The Board submits comprehensive annual reports to the relevant authorities of participating churches through the University College’s Annual Reports. In certain circumstances, board members may also be mandated to present reports to their respective constituencies on specific issues, thereby reinforcing transparency and accountability.

Management

The management of Chasefu University College (CUC) is entrusted with overseeing the day-to-day operations and ensuring the effective functioning of the institution. Together, the management team provides strategic leadership, academic oversight, and administrative support to advance the university college’s mission and objectives.

Key Roles
1. CUC Principal—Rev. Barnet Muwowo
As the head of the University College, the principal provides visionary leadership, oversees academic programs, and drives the overall growth and development of the institution.
2. CUC Vice Principal—Rev. Lovemore Nyirenda
The vice principal supports the principal in executing responsibilities, coordinates institutional activities, and contributes to the strategic direction of the college.
3. Dean of Academic Affairs (Part-Time)—Rev. Justine Zimba
Responsible for academic oversight, the dean manages curriculum development, faculty coordination, and student evaluations and ensures the maintenance of academic quality and standards.
4. Dean of Students (Part-Time)—Rev. Mapopa Nyirongo
The Dean of Students oversees student welfare and development, including student services, discipline, counseling, and fostering a supportive learning environment.
5. Chief Librarian (Part-Time) — Rev. Lazarous Chilenje
The Chief Librarian manages the college’s library resources, ensuring access to relevant academic materials, maintaining collections, and supporting research for faculty and students.
6. CUC Financial Administrator (Part-Time)—Mr. Kuffa Tembo
The Financial Administrator is responsible for financial management and budgeting, including monitoring expenditures, preparing reports, managing contracts and grants, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations.
