Our Story
Chasefu Theological College has a rich history that dates back to 2009 when it was established with the aim of training theologians and pastors to serve the congregations of the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) Synods of Zambia, Livingstonia in Malawi, and Harare in Zimbabwe. The college has played a crucial role in equipping students with the necessary knowledge and skills to lead and guide their congregations, laying the foundation for their future ministries.
The college initially started with a batch of 16 students, who were the first to enroll at Chasefu. These students paved the way for the subsequent classes and laid the groundwork for the success and growth of the college. Over the years, Chasefu has witnessed the graduation of a total of 38 theological students, comprising pastors not only from the CCAP Synod of Zambia but also from the CCAP Synod of Livingstonia in Malawi and the CCAP Synod of Harare in Zimbabwe.
The impact of Chasefu graduates on their respective congregations has been significant. Many of these pastors have been actively involved in various programs aimed at improving the well-being of their communities, such as community schools for orphaned and vulnerable children, home-based care for people living with HIV/AIDS, Women’s Guild programs, Men’s Guild programs, and Christian Youth Fellowship (CYF) programs. With the increased number of pastors, the CCAP Synod of Zambia has been able to assign multiple pastors to its congregations, ensuring that members receive the care and spiritual guidance they need. This is particularly important considering that a single congregation may encompass several locations spread across a large area, requiring pastors to travel long distances on foot or bicycle.
The success stories of Chasefu graduates are numerous and exemplify the impact of their training at the college. For instance, Rev. Abedenego Kunda has demonstrated exceptional leadership in his congregation, both spiritually and physically. He has overseen the construction of a pastor’s house at Chililabombwe, which will benefit future pastors serving the congregation. In terms of spiritual development, Rev. Kunda has encouraged his congregation to become more active in prayer, bible study, and fellowships. Similarly, Rev. Happy Mhango has empowered his congregation by introducing the Village Savings and Loan (VSLA) concept, enabling the members to achieve financial self-sustainability. This has further strengthened their commitment to the church and attendance at services. Another inspiring example is Rev. Pythias Kamaga, who spearheaded the construction of a new church at Muyombe congregation and emphasized the importance of giving and unity among the congregants.
In order to continue its mission of training future pastors, Chasefu Theological College has been receiving support from various sources. PC (USA) and PCA are providing scholarships for students, while the CCAP Synod of Zambia and local congregations also contribute to the college’s development. However, Chasefu is actively seeking additional funding for infrastructure development and scholarships to meet the growing demand for theological education.
Chasefu Theological College has been a beacon of hope for aspiring pastors, empowering them with the necessary knowledge and skills to serve their communities. Through its commitment to excellence in theological education and its graduates’ impactful contributions, Chasefu continues to play a vital role in the spiritual growth and development of CCAP congregations across Zambia, Malawi, and Zimbabwe.
At Chasefu Theological College, our theological training is a harmonious symphony.
